UPenn Case Study Visit
Today we headed out to West Philadelphia to check out our final case study at the University of Pennsylvania. We had the opportunity to speak with the Facilities & Real Estate Department at the university where we learned more about how they face issues similar to what our studio is addressing when it comes to integrating students and residents into a more fluid community. While at their department we were given an in-depth look at their 'Penn Connects' program & how they are going about the "town & gown" dynamics that the city offers.

We also traversed 40th Street which is a similar seam between residential and campus communities to that of Nichol Avenue. Take a look at what we saw as we journeyed through our final case study:

Case Study Visits
This past Saturday we took advantage of the warm temperature & headed into NYC to navigate, observe and document our Columbia University and City College of New York case studies. Things we looked at & discussed included:

-How was the boundary between campus & neighborhood defined?
-What kinds of activities took place on the boundary? On either side?
-What kind of structures exist in the space & how may they further define the boundary?
-What materials seemed to define a boundary between campus & neighborhood?

Check out some of what we saw:

Case Studies
The studio will visit, explore and analyze several campus locations with similar edge conditions.
The findings will be compared and reviewed and used to provide visual and measured qualities of sucessful edge conditions.
